W Residences Atlanta Downtown won the Atlanta Downtown Design Excellence Award November 10^th, which honors Downtown businesses for their design innovations during this past year.

The award winners are determined by a panel of judges including design, planning, and development experts, and, just as important, the public. Public opinion is one of the factors that the judges consider in selecting the winners. 

Begun by developer Barry Real Estate Companies in 2005 with the intention of bringing an iconic building to the $2 billion Allen Plaza neighborhood on the edge of Centennial Olympic Park, the W Atlanta Downtown is designed by internationally acclaimed, New Haven-Connecticut-based architects Pickard Chilton Architects (designers of 1180 Peachtree and The Pinnacle in Buckhead).

Interiors are by renowned Toronto-based BurdiFilek. The project was under construction and substantially completed throughout 2009, with its doors officially opened to the public in January 2009.

Kick Off Party for Jeffrey Fashion Cares at W Atlanta Downtown

The W Private Residences at the W Atlanta Downtown recently hosted the kick-off party for Jeffrey Fashion Cares 2009, one of Atlanta’s premier charitable event.

Jason Wu, designer of First Lady Michelle Obama’s inaugural gown, is this year’s special guest designer and Wu joined the Fashion Cares host committee at the W Residences for this year’s launch party.

Now in its 17th year, Fashion Cares benefits the Susan G. Komen for the Cure Greater Atlanta Affiliate and the Atlanta AIDS Partnership Fund. Last year’s sold-out event raised a record-breaking $800,000, with 95 cents on the dollar going to its beneficiary charities.

ATLANTA — With 237 rooms to fill and 74 condos to sell, the Downtown Atlanta W Hotel & Residences is adding another luxury to draw in business.

It’s a rooftop helipad and helicopter service to give downtowners quick access to Hartsfield-Jackson International Airport, along with offering a full menu of aerial tours.

But getting to and from the Airport isn’t cheap. It’s a $200 tab one-way for up to three people.

“We’re providing charter service, air taxi service to the W from various airports, making it from Hartsfield-Jackson it’s a very short ride of five to six minutes,” said Mike Russell, President of Prestige Helicopters, the Company running the service. “You take normal rush hour traffic where a ride from the W by ground should be 20-to-30 minutes could be 45 minutes with a bad accident.”
